Jimmy In His Seventies Poem by Francis Duggan

Jimmy In His Seventies

Jimmy an old bloke I do know is grieving for his wife
In their fifty years of marriage they enjoyed a happy life
Last Spring Annie died of cancer in her seventy fourth year
She may be in eternal rest but her spirit to him near
Their son and daughter's children are young parents of today
On the life of Jimmy in his mid seventies the clock is ticking away
His soul mate gone forever all is quiet where she lay
She did not have a painless end and that seems sad to say
The joy gone out of Jimmy's life since his dear Annie died
He feels a great sadness in his heart without her at his side
With the Grim Reaper Jimmy says we all do have a date
But he talks with teardrops in his eyes at the loss of his soul mate
Jimmy in his seventies is grieving for his wife
She rests in Nature's bosom now the great love of his life
