Joe Hughes Poem by Francis Duggan

Joe Hughes

'Twould seem that he has not lived there for somewhile
Between Joe and his Hometown of Drogheda there's many a mile
In the literary World he is one of note
And no doubt about it Joe Hughes is a poet.

As a poet a high standard he does attain
You read his poems once and you read them again
A credit to Drogheda and the wordsmith trade
'Tis true poets are born and cannot be made.

As good as the best of the poets of today
With words he is one who surely has a way
The pathos, the humor his turn of phrase
Joe Hughes is a writer well worthy of praise.

Of the title of poet of him none can deny
For Drogheda the literary flag he does fly
He bridges the gap between modern and rhyme
Joe Hughes he is surely a poet of our time.
