Journey Blues Poem by Andrew Lawrence

Journey Blues

I take leave for my journey planned forthrightly
Disaster - I find out about your mortal tragedy
I make another route plan sullied with deep sorrow
Silently thinking about you wondering why you wanted no tomorrow

Was it because of someone or everyone?
Or was it no one?
Was it because of something or everything?
I am now profoundly tearlessly crying

Thoughts are flowing through my mind for what was you
Also for your loved ones too
I also have special contemplations for those who found you
And those who become involved in service - The fantastic few

There is such a thing as a ‘strangers love' because I say so
And I have it for you - That's my status quo
Your departure is an incorporeal loss for humanity
On behalf of everyone, who didn't know you, we miss you greatly

I shiver motionless with melancholy
Cold from your happening - I am horridly sorry
Scared for those who knew you well who will learn the news
I ubiquitously call this true journey blues

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote the first draft of this poem in the small hours after Saturday 20th December 2014. After a tragic tube journey from Croxley to Barking where someone took their life. I then after much iteration try to address universally all the issues behind people who take their lives in this way and how I felt about this most distressing of human activities.
