Journey To Heaven Poem by Miss Dacosta

Journey To Heaven

Were you one of the ambitious,
Who were virtuous for glory?
And like the moon,
Did your vows to God wane and lack fortitude?

Did you lack temperance,
And like Venus trade God for foreign lovers?
Did you succumb to justice,
Or did you vice away the hours?

Were you a man of courage,
Who died diligently for the cause?
Were you temperant,
Like the monks who abided to their faith without pause?

Did you come clean;
Carry the pureness on your skin?
Were you met by the pure-hearted
Never touched by sin?

Like Jupiter's kings of justice,
Were you led by the sun?
Did his wisdom light the way
Or by the shadows was it undone?

What happened to the eyewitnesses,
Who never tasted death?
Or the apostle who saw heaven
Through an open net?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspired by Dante's Paradiso in The Divine Comedy the poem is about passing through the nine spheres of heaven. Both physically & metaphorically through continued faith and unrelenting virtue
