Judge Me Not Poem by luvuyo gqamane

Judge Me Not

Judge me not
Judge me for who I am
I was born from the genes of a domestic worker
And I’m the offspring of a garden boy
Yet I am a doctor

Judge me not by the coloure of my skin
I’m the outcome of those who dig cure and bricklayer
Yet I’m a pharmacist
I might have grown in the farmland but don’t
Call me a”plaas jaapie”
I am the result of a tea maker and messenger
Yet I’m the eye tea specialist

Mirrors of my heart are the paths of who I am
Yet I don’t claim my worth in ways of the ruthless
I am the offspring of the past and present and the future
Yet my heartbeat in conation for the grace of who I am
Judge me not for the tongues I speak
Judge me for who I am
Judge me not
