Just A Country Kid Poem by Natalie Dirks

Just A Country Kid

I'm just a country kid.
The chuck will's widow
Calls to me at night.
It's haunting melody tells me
That life is full of love
And grief
And loss.

I'm just a country kid.
The wind
Styles my hair
And reminds me
That you don't need a reason
To turn somersaults
In the grass.

I'm just a country kid.
The rain
Washes over me
And I realize
It's best to forgive
And be clean.

I'm just a country kid.
The birds
Sing to me
Before they know
If the day will be bright
Or cloudy
And I admire their optimism.

I'm just a country kid.
The lightning bugs
Flash me a message
In Morse code
It says
Be positive.
Spread light.
