Just A Slip Poem by Chhavi Anupam

Just A Slip

Have you
ever felt
confident
that you
can scale
Everest
and felt
sure
yes
you can
mountaineer
your way
upto the summit.

But in between
you slip
and
find yourself
in the deepest crevice
alone
cold
deep down
with high
towering
snow walls
all round.

And a
thin slit
of evening sky
visible
from your chasm
friends, fellow-trekkers
sigh
peep in
cheer up
also throw
glucose biscuit packets
to make you bear,

but
you know
that another blizzard
and you
cave in…
are gone
you cannot
climb up
neither anyone
can slide down
at this height
ropes not there
of this length.

No help can come
time is so short, soon
its going to be dark
and the fellow-trekkers
will have to return
to their base-camps
….leaving you here
alone.
….This is what
in mountaineering
may be in life also
…a slip costs!
