Kiddy Way, It Is.... Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

Kiddy Way, It Is....

Kiddy heart, weeping and sobbing
for the toy, imaginative treasure, in mart
begging, but, sure won't be owned
for reasons only Mom ‘n Dad would count

Being costly fragile and shoddy
carries nothing in it so fancy
no gimmicks it would perform
what use, they ask, un-yieldingly

Kid, unheeding to their reasoning
knows ‘n cares just one thing, despite
Most mates, meeting tomorrow in class
do possess and enjoy it pompously

Obstinate gesture of Mom and Dad
forced kid to walk grudgingly, way home
Battle being lost, demoralized and perturbed
sought sympathy and solace, finally in bed

Falling in deep and peaceful siesta
in serene and non-threatened mode
kid meets all dear and faithful
in the dream world of total dominion

Waking up, a little late though
kid runs in to mom's arms, cheerfully
Receiving usual hug and warmth
Pleads lovingly, "Mommy, I am hungry"!
