Know Or Know Not Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Know Or Know Not

What love is to know.
Or know it not.
Will never be felt the same.
To have this explained in one way.

A love for 'things',
Is a different love.
Than had for a human being.
Or a pet to accept,
As a close friend to get.

To know or know not love.
Is an experience within oneself.
That takes an emotional ride.
One moment wished it leaves to quit.
And if this should happen,
A guilt is left.
Difficult to live getting over it.

Then again it's love.
Not to know it from a past.
But often it is that past to have had.
Yet with it to want,
Love to feel it better.
With a love that remains to reminisce.
Kept to wonder if it was love at all.

"How much can 'thy' love 'thee'?

-Uh...
When I said,
I seek an old fashion kind of love.
One familiar as if to rekindle,
Memories that linger from my past.
You went too far back.
What makes you think I'm that old? -

"Well...
When you mentioned,
Strolling along hand in hand.
Gazing up at the stars.
And attaching our hearts,
To the mellow and sweet winds of romance?
That was more than a clue.
You were born long before,
I was.
That's for sure.
And,
People today...
Meet and greet to have sex.
Folks these days don't beat around the bush.
They are in the bushes."

-Doing what? -
