Lady in Waiting
This beautiful mule
of a woman
old and balky
squatting on
ancient haunches
and braying as I
pull on her rope
as hard as I can
so she will go
to the Botanical Garden
a place she loves
has a right to see
from her wheelchair
a cat on her lap
a rose in her hair
one last time.
