Lament, Lament Poem by David Zvekic

Lament, Lament

Rating: 4.3

While seasons sigh, to pass away,
The earth to pale; the skies, fall grey;
Cold night shall bide the warmth of day.

No wealth, nor prosperous career,
Nor margins made the fiscal year,
May hold defence when breath draws near.

Though strife and fire and ill disease
Would plague the world, the hills, the trees,
Fate's malice shall not much appease.

No dam nor buttressed castle wall
Could stand secure against its call,
For even there the mighty fall.

How cruel to render prophecy,
To tender frame love's poetry,
Then simply steal my dreams from me.

Though oceans, seas and rivers dry,
The brightest stars - When they too, die:
Two hearts will hold and Time untry.

But in that end, though love is spent;
As currency of our intent -
Still Death shall grin... Lament, Lament!
