Larry's Illusions Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Larry's Illusions

Larry the lizard
was bored so he decided
to become a wizard…
It would be cool
He thought,
I'll need some tools...
this could be exciting
He contemplated
going to Merlin's Magic School

He was more than ready
for a transformation….
Signed up for classes
ready to go beyond
There were a few things
that he needed
A new colorful robe
and a magical wand

At the start of the next day,
he sat in a classroom
alone… waiting
for his enlightening
instructor to arrive
The hour-hand
circled many times
Larry began to realize
it was half past five

As he looked around…
he felt much thinner
So he concluded
I'll go home for dinner
On his way,
he passed strangers
who did not notice
as the day grew dimmer

He approached his doorstep
and gasped
He saw two robbers
ready to depart the scene
They had a big bag...
They looked terrifying
Larry froze
and blended in
with nearby green

Watching as they passed
noticing features and height
When they were safely
out of sight
Larry raced inside
and promptly called 911
To operator he described
his dreadful plight

The police responded
within minutes
Quickly inquiring…
what is it you claim
Several prized possessions
have disappeared;
my tennis trophies
and beloved video games

After a description
of the thieves
was given,
a report was written
We'll let you know
what turns up
Larry felt like
a plucked chicken

It had been a most
unusual day of events
first wishing
for knowledge of magic illusions
then with a slight
of hand treasures vanished
Ending the day
in a state of optical confusion
