Last Day Of Summer Poem by Cheng Zheng

Last Day Of Summer

As light fades across blood red skies
Echoes of shadows caress the slumbering land
Where long forgotten blood once flowed
The battle that shocked the gods
They said
As circle surrounded circle in frenetic madness
Like a giant snake constricting itself
Till red spilt over the cliff
To the river below
No mountain of corpses blocks my way
As the twilight falls
Blue replaces red
Just like the river of so long ago
I throw an ant over the cliff
An infinitesimal offering
To the god of death
Soon lost down that endless blue abyss
As the light fades
On the last day of summer

well written... a sense of both time and timelessness.
