Last Night Poem by Nadeem Ishaque

Last Night

Rating: 5.0

Breeze is absent
Leaves are silent
Moon is repentant
The earth is numb
It feels no vibration
Clouds are drifting
Aimless
With no destination
Stars are exhausted
Sleepless
From endless anticipation
And the night malingers
Hapless
In paralyzed hesitation

On this derelict stage
Bereft of desire or rage
I offer my heart
From my body torn apart
My final immolation

Suddenly
In a moment forced
(Perhaps)
By an act
Of pure imagination
(That can happen
Even in utter destitution)
Your eyes appear
Holding back a tear
Bearing no indignation
And my soul gently escapes
Through that narrow space
In my heart's perforation

Vivid and evocative. Don't we all have such nights when emptiness surrounds us and some memory suddenly fills all the voids. Beautifully conceived n penned. Powerful emotions illustrated by striking imagery.
