LAST ~ REQUEST

Standing close, yet not quite over you,
so as not to disturb your stilled presence,
you sleep, yet somehow...like an aura,
i feel you touch the threads of my fragile heart...
cotton gentle, fresh bread warm...telling me,
''Love, i will not be far away''.

But come tomorrow, when they open the earth,
and lower you into your last new home...
will i no longer feel you are not so far away,
as that would inflict great pain on this heart,
like long rusted nails thrust thru' my arteries.
Tell me love.....you will not be far away.
