Lay Me Down Poem by Janaiha Hussain

Lay Me Down

Rating: 5.0

“Lay me down on a bed of flowers”, I said
So they lay me down on a bed of roses
But roses have thorns,
And they pricked me, robbed me of sleep
So I said “Lay me down on a bed of clouds”
And they lay me down on a bed of feathery clouds
But clouds are nothing, mere vapor
And I fell through them, not knowing, not feeling
And I landed on a bed of cacti
Needles pierced my skin, screams rose out of my throat
Blood splattered across my body like paint on canvas
The reality of this cruel world scared me
Nobody there to comfort, to lend a helping hand
I was drowning in an ocean of sorrow, of hurt
Only the fact that I survived was there to console me
That I remained, while thousands of others perished at the hands of Nature
But the thorns don’t bring pain anymore, and falling is not terrifying
I have become immune to it all, I do not feel anymore
I am nothing but an empty shell now,
Floating forever in the ocean of sorrow and hurt
