Lay The Past To Rest Poem by Marilyn Lott

Lay The Past To Rest

I have been going over my life lately
I suppose it is my age
I think about when I was a child
I stop at every stage.

My mom and dad were good to me
My dad was my favorite, it's true
When he died I got closer to mom
Has this ever happened to you?

Choices I made were not the best
Naïve is what I was, I suppose
Jobs I had, people I met
Those times came to a close.

I met the man who would father
My children, and I loved him so
But he died, most of you know that
It was truly a heavy blow.

But you go on, what else can you do?
Do the best in life that you can
And later on in life I was lucky
To find another good man.

I know regrets are a waste of time
For life, I think, is truly a test
Let's not worry about the bad things
We must lay the past to rest.
