Leaflets From My Life - My Generous Grandpa Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Leaflets From My Life - My Generous Grandpa

Rating: 5.0

A man with overwhelming generosity,
Ahead, standing tall, above all mediocrity,
Affectionate, kind, full of curiosity,
Altruistic, liberal, full of philanthropy,
Aglow with warmth of love and empathy.
Ah! That was my dear Grandpa!

To serve cooked food for the poor,
To all the workers who served the family,
To give with humility without a shred of pride.
To offer shelter to the homeless with compassion,
To educate young girls, boys, and send them to schools.
Hey! That was my dear Grandpa!

Never hesitated to give away his land
To the farmers who toiled so hard in the farms;
Never regretted to bestow his antique valuables
To the relatives, neighbours and friends;
Never refrained from extending his hand
To the desperate people drowning in debts;
Ahoy! That was my dear Grandpa!

How can I forget
My generous Grandpa who taught me
How to live a good life with love, compassion,
Meaningful existence with all fellow beings,
Heralding a new era of selfless service to humanity,
Managing many families alike without discrimination.
Am I not lucky to be the granddaughter of a super Grandpa?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My Grandfather's motto in life was to 'Live and Let live'. As I lived with my Grandparents during my school and college years. I watched them live a meaningful life. My Grandfather was extremely generous and gave away most of his wealth and property to the farmers, weavers and poor people. He was a rare personality and i am so glad that i was a witness to many acts of his kindness and generosity. This made a lasting impression on my life. I wish i had a good picture of my Grandpa. Instead i am posting the picture of Kerala where he lived.

In those generation people were selfless and caring, they were far from our material world where we keep confronting power game, one-upmanship, false pride and cut throat competition. They had the hearts of the Gold. Nice tribute to your grandpa..I pray may his soul RIP. Very touchy poem Geetaji.

A super Grandpa for a super granddaughter. It's people like your Grandpa that make life so worth living. In spite of all the evil that exists, it's poems like this, about people like him, that are a true testament to Spirit! Thank you, Geeta for this beautiful tribute poem.
