Les Murray Poem by Francis Duggan

Les Murray

Les Murray was a literary figure of note
One who lived and died as a renowned Australian poet
The winner of many a prestigious literary prize
From humble beginnings up the literary ranks he did rise
One who reached the poetic summit of fame
In poetry Les Murray became a great name
It is said that twenty languages he could speak fluently
Quite an achievement in it's own right as most would agree
But his literary successes a swollen ego in him did not provoke
Despite his fame he lived as a down to earth bloke
It was with humility he lived until his last living day
That his poems will outlive him only true to say
Les Murray was a great poet his equals so few
And of him this is not saying anything that is new.
