Let's Go - The North Star Way Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

"Lets go" said he
"where" I asked
"ahead in life" said he,
the man who said this
was my husband;
we walked many miles
of life and love together;
we felt stronger and stronger
in unity and understanding
and as years turned its summers
we accumulated blessings
of contentment and serenity.

"Lets go" said another voice
this time it was my child's;
"where" I asked him
"to the park" said he meekly;
so little, so pretty was he
yet so very insistent,
he had just learnt to walk and talk,
I could never say no
to anything he wanted or liked.

"Lets go" said he again
this time he was still so small
less than two years of age,
"where" I asked him
"where would you want to go"
"to school" said he
and I dropped him at the Nursery
while I walked to my classroom
as I was a Teacher then.

"Let's go"said he, "teach me now"
"what" I asked him -
"the ABC's" he replied;
I asked another teacher
to teach him,
he learnt so quickly,
that was the magic as from others
a child learns faster
than from his own mother.

Finally came those days
for higher education;
"Lets go" - he yelled
"where" I asked him
"wherever I go", he replied
"why? " - I asked him
"I have to take you wherever I go"
and though I told him
he was free and past twenty three,
he could go alone;
"Mother, let's go together" he said to me
"why? " I asked him,
he replied - "I am still your child,
assist me with my plans,
help me navigate through my dreams,
help me with my discretion,
as there must be no errors
in what I do."

Let's go, mother walk with me
direct me until you are here;
as, for the rest of my life
I will have to walk alone and
though you will not be there
here with me,
I will remember your advice
and always refrain
from doing anything
that is unnecessary or unjust.

So, let's go together
and wherever I go
let my mother's caring heart follow me
like a guiding star
whether you are on this earth today
or whether you will be far away from me
in that sky, someday".
