Lie! Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Lie!

Remember those days,
Long gone to have passed on.
When truth to say it and hear,
Would be as refreshing...
As a clear sky and air to breathe.
Accepting what was said,
To be truthful and honest.
Leaving a feeling of being set free.
Without suspicion,
Of a mystery.
Someone intended to leave.
Hoping eventually it to be solved.
Simple were those days.
Before the craving for gossip,
Became an addictive rage.

Today?
Many have begun to discover,
Lies are being told...
Not only to themselves but to others.
Proving to deceive delivers to them benefits.
Leaving few to argue or dispute,
As to who did what legitimately...
To get where they are.
Whether high on a mountaintop.
Or bragging with friends,
At 'happy hour' inside a neighborhood bar.
Lieing.

Or...
Disguising the hiding of lies.
With innocent eyes.
And at times using tears to cry.
When revealing a trying to save,
A dying relationship.
Wishing to get empathy.
From someone before 'happy hour' flies.
Regardless how pre-meditated and rehearsed.

"You come across too desperate at times.
Try again.
Have that single tear,
Drop from the left eye.
The right eye?
In my opinion?
Is less convincing.
Especially with your hand up,
As if awaiting for that tear to drop.
To wipe away.

Just lie and say what it is you want.
And...
You don't have to drink these days,
To get the courage to do it.
Lie.
Being honest and truthful these days,
Says more about your age than anything else.
Lie get laid and leave! "
