Life Poem by Pauline Waweru

Life

Life oh life,
So sweet when young,
So fresh and exciting,
Life oh life!

Celebrated on the onset,
Feared, despised and sometimes ended
As time goes by,
Life oh life!

With a triumphant cry you come,
Joyous ululations and goodwill meet you,
New this, new that, gifts of all manner receive you,
Life oh Life!

To some you are fine wine,
To some bitter herbs,
Do you ever pity?
Life oh life!

As days go by,
You give gifts in abundance,
Wrinkles, joint pain, how generous you are!
Life oh life!

When spent and all done,
You slowly ebb away,
With no goodbyes you slip away,
Life oh life!

Another cry on your departure day,
Only this time laced with pain and sorrow,
Farewell, your work is done.
Life oh life!
