Life, Love, And Marriage Poem by David Page- aka Harry Riley

Life, Love, And Marriage

‘Life, Love, and Marriage'
The gift of life is a fine thing; of that we can be sure
We take it from the cradle, crying and complaining
Moaning and bewailing, what luck is this, what have I done?

Who had the right to bring me here? Where is My silver spoon?
Where is My wealth and handsome health, My easy ride through life? My ‘this, My that' My self-regard, My claim to be secure

My God! We are so selfish... and still we ask for more
For everything we ever knew, or thought we felt for sure
When love walks in and shakes you up, ‘the me' will be no more

So now we're ‘two! What should we do? We start to plan another life. A golden future beckons us, together man and wife
It's fated! there's no stopping now! No time for apprehension

The Banns are Read: it's all been said, for a wedding celebration! Marriage is our river, running fast, and sometimes slow. Twisting, turning, ever changing, going forward with the flow

Comes the torrent... loud and smashing, cutting, cleaving
Tempest heaving, spinning, crashing, banks exploding!
Then the darknes, then the snow, on and on, as if forever...

Summer sunshine! sailing calmly to the sea
Till journey's end for you and me
Those happy, endless, sparkling flights, of golden days
And champagne nights
