Like A Dead Leaf Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Like A Dead Leaf

No life's blessed with a mind that can match mine,
Produce a piece of art, nor blessed with speech,
Music nor yet poetry so divine;
I alone rarest of rare heights can reach.
What if I have to hurt this land of birth?
What if more than give, take out in disguise?
But vulture sure man is, clever than wise
That would cavil if called burden ‘pon earth.

If wiser he were than rest of the life,
Proffered hast he no proof in support still,
His claim to contribute— a placebo pill
That brought has to planet warrants of strife1,
May be, earth would heave a sigh of relief,
Were he to fall off Earth like a dead leaf.

1. Warrants of strife: It alludes to the challenges that the planet faces today like misuse of natural resources: unsafe drinking water, toxin-laced food, polluted air, extreme climate, frequent and unnatural disasters, declining quality of life, and the like. _____________________________________________________

It is an implied law that whatever we take from Nature has to be put back in equal measure! As Gandhi ji has said, the world has enough to satisfy everyone's need, but not enough to satisfy everyone's greed! Man is exploiting Nature too much and we have to bear the drastic consequences! If we are not careful, not far is the time when man would fall like a dead leaf! Great warning!
