Like A Long Forgotten Scent Poem by Robert Creffield

Like A Long Forgotten Scent

Through short reluctant days of winterlude
When grey cinder skies imprison the sun
And storms and gales embitter their feud
Reeking havoc on what the other has done

Then these tyrant winds do scorch the flanks
Enticing Nimbus into raging precipitous cloud
And Thor beats his breast and bursts the banks
Covering fields and groves in a watery shroud

Now all winter long beneath this sodden earth
The silk fine primroses patiently wait in queue
And by Nature's silent signal they break the turf
Dazzling in their beauty dire winter is subdued.

Like a long forgotten scent
From a garden in our youth
The fragrance of our love remains
Distilled in every touch and look.
