Like Sheep, We Went Astray! Poem by Dr John Celes

Like Sheep, We Went Astray!

One sheep had gone astray;
The devil had its sway;
Bring back the sheep His way;
O God, Christ Lord, I pray.

I know it wasn't its fault;
It lost its nature, salt;
Could not the Shepherd halt?
It landed in dark vault.

Rescue the sheep, O Lord!
O God, give me your word;
The wolf must get the sword?
Forgive the wolf, O God!

Many sheep go this way;
Who keeps devils at bay?
Many believe their say;
They bait by night and day!

Such innocent sheep fall
Ignoring Shepherd's call,
With none to ever stall,
The dark ravine and pall.

Have mercy Lord, we pray!
Retrieve the sheep today;
Do send a warrior Fay;
Bring sheep to fold, your way.

Bring back sheep in your arm;
'Tis hungry and not warm;
Protect it from more harm;
Put it back in your farm.

The Lord is my Shepherd;
He cares about His herd;
He keeps His every word;
He loves all sheep and bird!

He'll bring back each lost sheep;
With staff, a watch he'll keep;
He's wake and will not sleep;
His heart for sheep does beep.

'All we like sheep have gone astray'
