Linger Poem by Can I Live?

Linger

Rating: 0.5

Linger...
you lingered only a little too long afterwards,
like the snow that fell and stayed for weeks,
lying around in the yards and the streets.
Like dreadful music with accidentals
all in the wrong places, covering up the melody,
lasting forever

Unbearable stuffiness, hot air, too-warm cheeks,
perhaps something provocative, or
simply odd.

Something about your hesitation, your
reluctancy to leave, told me
that you were not being honest.
Gripping your arm, I pulled you close
so that I could smell your breath
and taste your scent on my tongue.
I asked, 'Who are you? '
You turned and left me with no answer,
but your silence spoke loud and clear:

No one.
