Listless Students Poem by Refai Tommas

Listless Students

Listless Students

I slowly plod through the corridor of university
Hoping against hope to find an atom of left humanity
Students’ faces are not familiar to me
And black things are all that I can see
There were fake smiles drawn upon fake faces
That further furnish the faint sky with falsity

Even the walls have worn ornaments
They have ears no more
No more shall they ever listen
For none is in fact here
Except listless students swelled with fear
Fear of others and of themselves.
Ghosts of students dwell near
The edge of Hades, whose gate
Has closed its doors to them out of hate.

To whom then shall I complain?
To whom shall I weep?
Nobody cares for another’s pain
Everybody seems deep asleep! ! !
