Little Bird (2004) Poem by David Joel Rodriguez

Little Bird (2004)

Rating: 3.5

A calm little boy with beady eyes
Shortly to wake up and eat his rice

Head so round with chunky cheeks
When you DO wake, they'll be filled with tasty treats

Before long you'll be tall enough to grab
You stare at the things you can't reach
You observe and listen what you hear from Dad
Before long you'll develop your speech

Awakened...
Now in Mother's arms you'll spend...

Eyes slightly closed from a hours long nap
Won't be long when bottle comes you'll attack

You wiggle about with your arms and dangling feet
Because you know that it is time for you to eat

You don't scream, cry, or yell until...
Your stomach says that's the bottle which will fill,

Then, you notice the features of 'your' bottle;
You suddenly wake; your eyes don't deceive

Your face brightens and motion your mouth of a bird
You sigh and squirm and reach out your tiny hands
Grasp your five hour long lost container of nutrients
Swig your eight ounce and smile as you...burrp!
