You are the one that I’ve protected through the years
Battling the challenges of life along side of you
Sheltering your innocence at the expense of mine
And not regretting the pains of life’s design

You came to me for advice in life matters
Revealing your most inner fears and tears
Not knowing how to make them disappear
And I guided you the best way I saw clear

Now you are surviving on your own
Using the lessons taught in the big bad world
Wanting to return back to the time
When life was neither yours nor mine
