Llanelli's Choir Poem by charlie drakobich

Llanelli's Choir

Tis the season some would say,
For retrospect, observant pray
Many kneel and bow, good book in hand,
Thanks to the savior of this glorious land
Not long ago, during a darker time,
Were many a God from many a mind
Humanity's conclusion to the unknown,
When fear and ignorance ruled the throne
Pursue one God for heaven's sake,
The sensible solution, consolidate
Toe the line the scholars would scribe,
No fear of mortality on the other side
Countless dispatched by hand of sword,
In name of doctrine, ideal, a lord
Many long let loose celestial sway,
The slow boat turns Mr. Darwin's way
Piety's influence on youthful minds,
A difficult task during Christmas time
Religion, gospel, it's hard to compete,
With the ear of Saint Nick on an oversized seat
An agnostic hand now trims the tree,
Hanging lights so traditionally
Ribbon and bows all in their right place,
Gleeful anticipation on the little one's face
A story about reindeer with elves will be told,
Crossed are our fingers, some dreams will take hold
A creak in the stair gives way tip toeing feet,
Wide awake eyes disguise minimal sleep
Stocking are full, children all smiling,
Snowflakes arrive, what incredible timing
Fast moving hands reveal coveted toys,
A hug, a kiss, squeals of joy
Family and friends feast together as one,
An arduous year, we've had quite a run
Seasonal tunes float all around,
Trading somber instrumental for more popular sounds
Every cork is pulled, all wine has been poured,
The kitchen is clean, fine china now stored
A household now sleeps, guests have retired,
One last little nip, near what's left of the fire
old holiday carol my ears do acquire
O Holy Night, Llanelli's choir
A raise of hair, tingle of spine,
Organ to baritone to truly sublime
Epiphany, were I divine, the chorus induced,
Not words in the message, but harmony produced
Hearts via voices knit into a whole,
Harmony, I see was the ultimate goal
Virtue, forgiveness, compassion, to create,
Words we conceived to describe Gods given traits
All paths on this planet reached or explored,
Truth pulled from facts, common sense all ignored
At last, fading images does mind eye see,
A Welshmen's choir and a world set free
