Locked In Lungs Poem by Kathryn Garner

Locked In Lungs

as for what i said
i know its not what i need
but who the hell says what i need
we are all in denial
claiming death another while
and all the while
waiting
and
wasting
hoping for something better
to prance down this desolate road
trodden so little
with premature life
and so much
with withered old hags
only hoping for one day more
before they grasp their last musty breath
and lock it in their lungs
till their bodys are done for
and gone
so far far far away
till it only becomes another piece of the road
another particle clinging toward me
dragging me to the dirt
till shame
turns me to an old hag
till i cough in my final must breath
and then
i shall cling to the new lost and lonley man
who wanders here
