Lonely Highway Poem by Melissa Derouen

Lonely Highway

As I sit here on my bunk tonight
I look out the window
At the cars drive by
Do they not ever think about us
On this lonely highway made of dust
Do we not ever cross their minds
Not one single thought are we able to find
We all have done wrong to find ourselves here
We all have pain
We all have fear
We all have different stories to tell
The times we slipped
The times we fell
Now here we are, all together
In this hell we have found shelter
One day we will each walk out of these gates
Not letting the devil seal our fates
I cant help but to wonder about the ones we will leave behind
Will they ever cross our minds
Did the ones before, think about us
On this lonely highway made of dust
