Look Ahead Poem by Mark Hopwood

Look Ahead

Behind their eyes they'll find that there's a hurricane
Twisting rapidly, Running circles around the pulsating brain
And in the centre, right behind the velvet shining blinds
There's a place of Souls, Spirits and Minds.

They find that beyond the known is the never previously shown
There's light in the night and rain warm and glowing
As stairs climb and descend past the place of worlds they couldn't mend
For so long they didn't bend, right until the end.

So who swallowed a glow-germ?
That deadly alien junkie worm
Penetrating your eyes with psychedelic burn
Turning your brain to powder
And making the drums beat louder
A butterfly catches the eye as it passes by
Doing the breast-stroke,
or was that a thought going up in smoke?

And between the lines they found only cracks in the pavement
They shot the messenger before the message had even been sent
The future could be so bright for the whole of mankind
If we could only find some Soul, Spirit and Mind.
