look how free we are
see how the world looms
look at the wars that have brought us such
don't forget them or the people
from the past that have done so much

and what advances we have made
since our first beginnings
all things new and old seem miraculous to me
how'd we come so far
how many lives were laid low
for the futures to come

why are so many people unhappy
look at all we have
look at where we are
our ancestors dealt with it all
with hopeful smiles and dreams abundant
they couldn't beat all life's troubles
but could still enjoy it

so freshen your ideas of what life's supposed to be
live it with all its difficulties
do something different to make it easier
for generations to come, for you and me
and you'll look back, or down from Heaven
with a happy heart
saying to yourself look what I have started
