Lost Loves Poem by Charles A Bailey

Lost Loves

My life was spent in many ways
Loving at night and dreading the days
From a child in school to an old man
Love slipped through my fingers like grains of sand.

They say your first love is the one that lasts
My first love is lost in the past.
My second love fared no better
She was cold and fickle as the changing weather.

My third love stayed but she gave her heart
To someone new, till death did us part.
The loves of my life have come and gone
Now I stand one last time at love's golden throne.

Shall I give my heart as in the past
And take a chance this love will last?
I think not, I can't stand the pain
I shall never give my heart again.

If I had been more gentle and kind
If I had talked with them and shared my mind
Maybe one love would have stayed with me
I could have avoided this misery.

Its sad to grow old and still be alone
To remember all the loves I have known
Even God does not love me as I have been taught
I guess the lost loves were all my fault.

Charles A Bailey
To all the girls I have loved, please forgive me.
