Love? Poem by Pita Nuba

Love?

Oh man!
Show me your heart
Take this coal to the hearth
Its cold...
Your heart and hearth
Right or wrong, you are old
You have lost it
You never deserved it...
Pity?
Never...
Did you pray to the gods today?
You played all through the week and it's Sunday
And here you are home not alone...
In your bed lies another
In your heart so cold is your children's mother
A fair maiden I must say
Beautiful like a goddess and I must pray....
But she here, though dressed in this robe
With body like the trunk of a baobab
Truly, your heart is cold...
Nobody to tend your hearth...it remains cold

Woman!
Truly, woe man....
Another's home you have taken
Even when to his home you were never taken
And you pray for your own?
You want to be the Lady of a home?
Did you see the lady whose home you took?
You see how forlorn she looks?
Yours will be worst...
Termites will hasten your home's rust
I won't place this curse...
You did already and you have lost
Ahead you is the that which you seek
Because of you another is sick
May you never find it
Love?
Truly, yours is lost...

Tell me your dreams dearest
Did you ever thought your husband won't come home to rest?
You are beautiful...
You are blessed, your home is full
Princess, Queen, mother
Your children deserve a greater father
It may look bleak
Nay, keep your eyes, don't blink
Upon the hills you won't find it....
Your man is lost in gambit
In another's arms he lies
With you he lies...
He will come home soon
Keep your faith...
