Love And The Race Poem by Varghese J Kuttikat

Love And The Race

Sitting on the river bank flanked in by rose gardens
Joe saw the loveliest rose blossoming
On his darling`s cheeks, while
The rest of the world hardly noticed the rosiness
He felt convinced her nose excelled Cleopatra`s
The dim light filtering in seemed to him precisely
The soothing gleam of the First Morning
And he greeted his Eve with all the ardor of Adam
Adam`s and Eve`s mutual longing drove them
Into union of bodies and souls intimate
Whether they wished it or not
One can`t be certain; nevertheless
The first child was born to them
That marked the perpetuity of our race
Who knows our first parents regretted their act?
They, of course, set the ball rolling
On the court, let us not be too eager to judge
