Love Back. Poem by Mishack Mchunu

Love Back.

When the leaves of the trees began to turn green
What we had faded, our river of love went dry
It felt like I was watching the whole world from a big screen
Seeing you only in my nightmares, I couldn’t stop to cry

I recall the night you left me breathless, I thought I was going to die!
For you broke in my soul and with your sweet love stole my heart.
Just like a Pagan my life without you is just a lie
Swimming in the pool of my own tears, about to drown and fall apart

Should I compare you to a forgiving rise of the Sun?
That washes the earth and gives beauty to my lonely life.
Nor should I compare myself to a soldier in the army with a machine gun?
That would slay anything on his way to making you his wife.

If I wrote this just so you could take a bow and call me a good poet,
My beloved, just take me as a small thing that hits so hard like a bullet
