Love Departing Poem by Lora Colon

Love Departing

Rating: 5.0

I hold the flame as it flickers and dies,
Watching love departing through tear-filled eyes,
I can taste the bitter tears as they flow,
Now I feel the sharp sting of twilight's woe

Alone in the night, taunting spirits rise,
They hold a mirror to my empty eyes,
These eyes that once reflected Heaven's light,
Now cold and dim like this relentless night

On a dark, rough sea, my fragile boat's tossed,
The heart's burial ground for the loved and lost,
My heart's been shattered beyond all repair,
It licks its wounds, sensing death in the air

For one sweet moment, I basked in love's hue,
Then with a poisoned tip, the arrow flew,
Piercing my heart, bringing me to my knees,
But Heaven ignores lovers' tragedies

My heart has become a graveyard for dreams,
Dead are the hopes..... all the plans and the schemes,
The bridge has been crossed, no love to reclaim,
Yet the dying heart tries to fan love's spent flame

But weak are the echoes of my sad song,
No comfort comes from the angelic throng,
My voice alone amidst silence is heard,
Gone.... lost forever.... love's comforting word

But Heaven ignores lovers' tragedies. This beautiful verse so well summarizes the whole poem. Your pain vividly reaches the reader in a most effective and poetic way. It is felt and understood.

Well written verse.....I've seen love come back from the dead....and the hopeless singing joyful songs...love wasn't meant for eyes or head....more for the few than marching throngs. ;)

I have just read this masterpiece poem, felt saddened. 'Watching love departing' is a terrible experience. For a heart 'shattered beyond all repair', this is more terrible. 'For one sweet moment, I basked in love's hue, Then with a poisoned tip, the arrow flew, Piercing my heart, bringing me to my knees, But Heaven ignores lovers' tragedies' - Everybody understands the pain, but few can express it so perfectly as you have done here. 'My heart has become a graveyard for dreams, ' and, 'Yet the dying heart tries to fan love's spent flame' and, 'Gone.... lost forever.... love's comforting word' - are the lines that blur the eyes of the readers like me. 10/10 from me.
