Love Like Flight Poem by Braden Patton

Love Like Flight

Rating: 5.0

Here, with the faded breath of my belief,
I stand waiting, waiting for you to bring relief.
But in the dim light of my mind,
I feel obligated to tell you I’m blind;
That I can’t see what time did to me,
Nor the flightless bird that I’m damned to be.

Here is where I prove my fondness of your perfection.
With every glance you shoot at me,
I feel the presence of growing affection.

In the bleak hours between midnight and three,
I feel the insecurities settle over me.
If only I could see you before the sun starts rise,
Perhaps we could find love seeping out of the lies.

Here, in this room with chipping paint and tattered ceilings,
I feel the need to prove to you my true feelings.
In every word we speak is a secret meaning.
I can feel your guardian angel intervening,
Without cause or hesitation,
Her wings will flutter and bring creation,
And from under her veil she will send,
A spell to help her child pretend
That I am not just another broken heart,
And our love is protected from being torn apart
By the claws and fangs of those jealous creatures
Who don’t believe we can change our features;
We can prove them wrong with our passionate bliss,
We can regain our love with a fairytale kiss,
And each girl will cry out
And every boy will shout
Because they don’t have what we won’t give away
And that is more than enough of a reason to stay.
