Love's Beasts Poem by Lonnie Hicks

Love's Beasts

I saw your heart recoil
so recent perfect in my view
now a hurtful scenario
your flowers
still
on my table of confusion
my tableau
still
quivering
from
your charmed
onslaughts
and I the willful
debutante
my dance card filled
romance in my eyes
my heart then
brimmingly
needy.

And you
ever clever
supped
and drained
it dry.

And I
not seeing
willfully
gave up
my soul's contents
laid to rest
all cautions
to your whisperings
and you
sucked all
even as I reveled
in the drainings.

Such is youth's
leanings;
its misundertandings;
its experiences costings;
youths pricings.

There be those
who feast and prey
upon those loving
who never dreamed
such
beasts
existed
and
deprive
youth
of its
very youth
its glow
racking up
one
for
experience.
