Love, Trust, & Rust Poem by T Michael Farrell

Love, Trust, & Rust

the trouble with being in love is you expose yourself to harm,
You lay down your defenses, you unilaterally disarm
no clothes, no weapons, completely vulnerable
too often broken hearts, pieces innumerable
You say every guy, all of them, broke your heart
good ones or bad ones, you can't tell them apart
and now the pieces of your heart are covered in rust
true love has finally come your way, but motives you mistrust
so now there's another layer on your heart, a layer of rust
there's only two path's to take, never fall again, or
believe the other loves you as much, or more
and if you're lucky, The pieces are put back together, the rust is no more
and finally, just in time, your pieced together heart can soar
