Love's Death Poem by Smoky Hoss

Love's Death

Rating: 5.0

That woman I love,
I loved her beyond the known.
She left me heartless,
cold, all alone.

This mean, cruel world
treats a poor man like a slave.
Be better off laid down,
in an old, dark grave.
Lonely nights
spent crying.
Empty days
wasted and dying.
Death has no mercy,
falling.
Love has no help,
calling.
There is no charity
in this lonely land.
No relief found here
for a lonesome man.
Great God
what can a poor boy do,
when the devil comes crawling
after you;
he'll take your heart, and if you let him,
your soul too.
Death steals love
every chance it gets.
Leaves an empty heart,
full of no good regrets.

Oh, you don't love me baby
anymore, I know.
You turned cold,
and just had to go.

Oh, what a woman can do
to a man's heart.
Rip it up,
and tear it all apart.

My hearts gone.
My soul hanging on by a thread.
Even my body is
nearly dead.

Death gives no quarter
in all the land.
Love holds on
best it can.
But, in the end
love falls, death stands.
It won't
take long,
you look once, twice, and
then you're heart is gone.
The dust of the chase
is all that remains.
Love is a gamble,
and sometimes a losing game.

So I go sit beside the river of Babylon,
and weep.
Pray to the Lord,
my soul to keep,
for I have nothing else left
to sow, or to reap.

Hey, Smoky! Greetings from Albuquerque, NM. If you've lost in love recently, you have my sympathy. But I'm glad you were able to express it in this Country Western lyrical form. The best to you, brother. -Glen

I agree with Kim, so sad. She is the biggest loser, has lost a great love.

Sad stuff, Smoky! So sentimental. Smiles simply scarce.
