Maiden Of The Shadows Poem by B3k Baylon

Maiden Of The Shadows

Perched upon a low branch of a tree,
Marvelling at the view spread out before me.
Rolling hills, and patches of red and gold
And birds in flight, a sight to behold

I closed my eyes, listening to the gentle rustle,
Of this majestic tree, more like a Castle
Branches reaching out like turrets,
Its trunks grooves, so like the cozy garrets

As I drew in the cool sweet breeze,
I can’t help but envy the busy bees.
Going about their wondrous toil,
Reaping them gems of floral rich soil

Ah, nature’s glorious symphony,
Playing forth a tune in surreal harmony
One that was broken by a sob below,
I looked down, a sad faced girl I saw…

Curled upon that groove I know,
This shabby nymph with tears aflow
“What’s the matter? ” I said…
And jumped down the grassy bed

Lifted her head from her folded arms,
I was taken by the eyes’ pain alarmed.
“I know not, but I hurt a lot”, said she
Her face somehow brought familiarity

Such a pitiful creature, so out of place
I sat beside her, peering down the face
The hem of her dress stained with mud
And the tiny hands, covered in dirt and blood

“I was watching you…”, she whispered
“And wished to feel like you do, Hesper”
Amused, I looked at the flowers afar…
I said, “I am anything but, the Evening Star”

“But of course you are…”, she insisted.
The pupils of her eyes constricted
Its hue the shade of the warm fertile Earth
“Such likeness to mine…”, and caught my breath

“I came here to find you…”, she said…
‘cause without you I’m no better than dead
When you left, I was lost and broken,
Nothing but, a dark curse unspoken

“You see Hesper, you are the Light…
The star that makes nighttime bright
Guide for the wanderers wary of the path
My refuge against the demon’s wrath…”

She took my hand and pointed at the valley below
Said, “See that forsaken Land Of Sorrow? ”
“You left me there, since then I perished
For your presence keeps my soul nourished.”

“I’m sorry…I didn’t know why I left you…
All I wanted was Happiness and I know not woe”
The girl shuddered, at the words spoken…
“Ah, but we’re just One, now we’re Broken.”

“…you and I, Twins of the Olden Times you see
One living without the other? Catastrophe….
Now the balance has been disturbed Hesper,
The peace you spoke of, may be lost Forever…”
