Mamie Poem by elna mercado

Mamie

I’m shocked to receive
The news of your demise:
Death while in laughter…
I want to cry
But then I chuckled
As you often do to me,
You tickle!
I’m ecstatic seeing your smiling face
At your funeral when everybody’s in crying race.
Deeply, I’m in sorrow
Cause I’m missing you,
Your laughter, your touch,
Your stories that never last.
Oh, I thought there will still be many years
Of you popping at my doorstep
With your voice hollering me
Cause you can never see!
Even without a sight,
Your hugs and kisses make my days so bright.
The lunch when a fish bone got stuck in my throat
Cause I have eyes but do not look!
You were fascinated and your laughter
Spread around like the stormy sea
But your touch is a cure that heals
Loneliness in me today.
