Mamlambo Nyoka Yabafazi Poem by torchofthegods mofokeng

Mamlambo Nyoka Yabafazi

MAMLAMBO NYOKA YABAFAZI
Feared by the ignorant, cherished by a few chosen
Mamlambo, Serpent of women, Calm, harmless, yet misinterpreted
Eyes always closed, as if sleeping
I am not sleeping, but watching
There is no need to open my eyes, for it is not with my eyes that I see
The painful decision, that I made, ages ago
My people being lazy and cruel, travelled to faraway places
Made barbaric pacts, in the name of wealth,
Returned with man-made animals
In my residence they dumped them,
For me to suffer, the sight impossible to conceive
I shall close my eyes
I see their plan, when someone drowns
Mamlambo is the culprit
Call me the warlock, he must be accountable
Let my people know, know that I am harmless,
I am knowledge, and I am wisdom
I am the healer.
Lack of knowledge, lack of interest by my society
Has created a rift between us
I miss my people
I have become a stranger, estranged to my land
I would call out to all women, only a few would answer
How long?
I blame the warlock
His creature is feasting on my people
I am innocent, I am harmless
Nature's creation, beautiful creation of my mother
Mamlambo, liberation to women
All Hail Mamlambo
