Man Versus Small Dumb Creatures Of God Poem by Dr John Celes

Man Versus Small Dumb Creatures Of God

When I see how skilfully, a bee can make a hive upon a tree,
And how a spider, like a horse-rider, plies across its wider web,
Such small creatures are safer than all humans, when they fall,
And fly unhurt like birds in sky until they die,

Work harder, with no ladder and are never sadder
Than humans, who turn mad and sad and bad,
When things go wrong for long, with a song,
They cannot write by day or by night, even with a light,

Nor live life bravely 'midst some strife or problems rife;
Yet, ants work hard, without their rants to meet their wants,
Despite a brain so small, in sun or rain, boon or bane;
But some men work by candle-flame for name and fame

Unlike most rich, who cannot stitch or clean a ditch,
Nor sleep deep or keep a schedule but peep
Through holes to pry or try or cry
Unhappily with break of day, on a tedious way and say

That God's not fair, the air is foul and He does not care
For men who fail, when ail or cannot sail
In weather rough, and times too tough and a hacking cough,
Though God is kind, ignores man's mind and does not find fault
With humans, though they kill by pill, on plain or hill,
Bite or hit and fight with all their might.
