Mantis Poem by john wake

Mantis

camouflaged is the mantis;
a resemblances like leaves.
Searching.. For where it is
On the blades they live.

Like if crippled by the sudden halt of the wind,
It preys-
Calm, cool it binds
On vines as it prays.

Ants in the thousands,
Flies that rattle the air alarm him of its presences.-
He falls into deep thought, like a twig it stands
Concentrating at the task at hand, with all its senses

Waiting for the victim to walk into the scene.
Three days on, our encounter a reflection of last;
His position unchanged,
His goal still the same. Still sane
An examination at the task
Raises question;
Is this position right?
Is the shade of green perfect?
And will patience pay?
All questions I only ask,
For the mantis doesn’t question,
He only prays.
