Mask In The Garbage Can - Poem by Emma Oglesby

The gowns glitter in the moonlight
The glass shoes glisten and peal with each step
Three nights of dancing.

Night One
Mask Secure
Molded to my face
Smiling and laughing
I’m someone else
No one suspects

Night Two
Mask glued on
People do a double take
All are curious
Will the cat come out of the bag?
Will anyone know the face behind the mask?

Night Three
A double door entrance
I step out of the cool crisp wind
No one was prepared
No one was ready
To see me as me
